Will I Ever
Will I ever?
Will I ever feel her embrace,
chase her love,
bond with her,
share laughter until we can’t breathe,
get lost in her eyes
and dare to call her mine?
Will I ever taste her honey,
spend my money without a second thought,
Give my heart without a guard,
kiss her softly in the quiet of the night?
Will I ever hear a child’s heartbeat beneath her ribs,
lead her with steady hands,
hold her fingers intertwined with mine,
lose whole hours in conversation,
cry when she is gone,
sing when she is near,
Be sick and still stay by her side?
Will I ever share this poem with her?
Will she know how long I waited,
that she is the apple of my eye,
that I worked, sacrificed, endured
for the chance to stand beside her?
Will she know
she is the only one who mattered?
Will she know?
